There have been serious discussions (almost leading to nerds hitting each other) about the titles of the Rambo films:
First film was named First Blood.
Second, Rambo: First Blood, Part II.
Third, Rambo III.
Fourth, Rambo IV or John Rambo.
The problem is with the naming of the third film, it should have been named First Blood Part III or Rambo Part II.
When Sly Stallone was asked about this discrepancy, he said that the logic behind the titling is that the first film which doesn’t have ‘Rambo’ in the title was still about Rambo. And so the third film with the character Rambo in it is called Rambo III.
A similar incident happened in the good ol’ Bollywood when the same trick was pulled by Mr. Roshan with his Krrish franchise.
First was named: Koi… Mil Gaya
Second, Krrish
And third, Krrish 3.
However, this doesn’t make sense as the Rambo logic doesn’t work here. Why you ask?
Well, as explained that First Blood didn’t have the word, ‘Rambo’ in it but at least it was about Rambo. That’s not the case with the first film of the Krrish franchise. Koi… Mil Gaya wasn’t about the character Krrish (Krishna). It was about Rohit Mehra, Krrish’s father. Moreover, Koi… Mil Gaya didn’t have any clues or suggestions whatsoever that it is also showing the origins of Krrish along with the Rohit Mehra story-line.
One argument which the Roshan family (the harbingers of the Krrish franchise) can make is that the events which occur in Koi… Mil Gaya, Jaadoo’s power transfer to Rohit in the final sequence, leads to Rohit’s son (Krishna) becoming the superhuman, Krrish. That is probably a valid argument, a winner maybe!
But you know what Hrithik Roshan said when asked by a reporter of this discrepancy, he said that they followed Rambo’s path. No Logic! Jumping the shark. Only being a copy-cat!
Now, I will go back sulking on this discussion in my 2 BHK home while Roshans’ earn hundreds of Crores making Krrish 4.
